Exploration Area
Vast Mineral Sands is dedicated to ensuring that our mining exploration is conducted in a sustainable and responsible manner. Our exploration area is perfectly situated for mining heavy mineral sands, with easy access to roads and existing infrastructure. The Project’s location provides access to substantial, well-established infrastructure and creates a unique opportunity for towns and communities in the area to diversify the local economy.

Vast Mineral Sands has carried out extensive prospecting work since the granting of the prospecting right in 2018. This prospecting includes mining-historical, field, and aerial geological, ground, and aerial geophysical and geochemical methods.
Initial prospecting results are as follows.
-
Good to very good qualities of heavy mineral sands over a large area.
-
Good to very good liberation of these minerals.
-
Easy to separate by gravity and by density and magnetic separation.

During the LOM some 180 million tons (Mt) of tailings and slimes have been accumulated at the 8 processing plants in the Alexkor concession area measuring approximately 100km from north to south and 7km from west to east. Since 2001 diamond mining declined drastically due to depleting resources, and the majority of the processing plants were dormant by 2016. This opened the opportunity to access the discard dumps without interfering with the day-to-day activities of diamond mining.
